Whitman Firefighters Attend Professional Development Seminars
WHITMAN– Chief Timothy J. Grenno is pleased to announce that members of the Whitman Fire Department recently attended the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts (FCAM) Professional Development Conference, where they participated in a number of seminars.
FCAM’s Professional Development Committee is an organization aimed at furthering the professional advancement of those in the fire service. The organization’s annual Professional Development Conference is intended to bring firefighting professionals throughout the state together for a series of lectures, workshops and seminars.
Chief Grenno, along with Lt. Robert Hover, Lt. Timothy Clancy, Lt. Al Cunningham and Deputy Chief Joe Feeney, attended the conference, which ran from Feb. 27 through March 1 at the DCU Center in Worcester.
“We always come out of this conference with a lot of valuable information that helps with our everyday function as a fire department,” Chief Grenno said. “There were several seminars offered this year and I think we did a great job of attending as many sessions as possible. As a result, I know we’ll become better leaders and be able to create safer work environments.”
Chief Grenno attended four seminars during the conference. The seminar topics included the conducting of employee investigations, managing risk-based organizations, the FBI’s role in dealing with active shooters and mass casualties and the conference’s keynote presentation about firefighter command and leadership by Fire Engineering Magazine editor-in-chief and Fire Department Instructor’s Conference (FDIC) education director Bobby Halton.
Lt. Hover, Lt. Clancy, Lt. Cunningham and Deputy Chief Feeney participated in three seminars during their time at the conference. Their sessions covered topics on the reality of rapid intervention teams, lightweight construction and marijuana grow facilities.
As a member of the FCAM Professional Development Committee, Chief Grenno has been attending the conference for the past nine years. Each year, he invites his shift officers to attend the conference as well.
