Stoughton Elementary Schools Hosting Family Literacy Game Night

Special Guest Former Boston Celtics Player and NBA All-Star Dana Barros to Read to Students

STOUGHTON – Superintendent Marguerite Rizzi is pleased to announce that Stoughton Public Schools will be hosting a Family Literacy Game Night next week, and students and family members from all five of the town’s elementary schools are invited to attend.

WHEN:

Thursday, March 1, from 5:45-7:30 p.m.

WHERE:

O’Donnell Middle School, 211 Cushing St., inside the cafeteria.

WHAT:

A night of reading, fun, games, play and pizza will be held as part of a collaboration between the Stoughton Public Schools Humanities Teacher Liaison Team, Stoughton Parent Engagement Center and Stoughton Public Library.

Former Boston Celtics player and NBA All-Star Dana Barros will be a special guest reader during the event and will read aloud to the children.

The night will begin with a free slice of pizza for everyone before the activities begin.

From there, staff will be running more than a dozen activity centers and literacy games. Families can play together to help improve their child’s reading and writing skills.

A group of Stoughton High students will be there to teach young children American Sign Language throughout the event.

In addition, children’s librarians from the Stoughton Public Library will host their own activities and provide material and information about the library’s programs.

The night will also include a special costume character visit from The Cat in the Hat, who will be spending time with the kids and posing for photos.

At the end of the night every child in attendance will be given a free book to take home.

Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult.
