EASTON — Chief Kevin Partridge is pleased to announce that the Easton Fire Department completed its annual cold water rescue training last week.

Led by Training Captain Michael Greene, the training was mandatory for every member of the fire department. The firefighters each trained during their shifts on Friday, Feb. 16 at a small pond behind the Easton Town Pool on Lincoln Street.

The training included how to use a survival suit, proper ways to go out onto the ice, how to rescue a victim who has fallen through the ice, education about different types of ice and how to handle victims with hypothermia.

The group took part in mock rescues where a firefighter pretended to be a victim who had fallen through the ice, while the others practiced rescue techniques.

“It’s extremely important that our firefighters know how to react when faced with a cold water rescue situation,” Chief Partridge said. “I’d like to thank Captain Greene for leading the training sessions and all of our firefighters who participated.”
