Whitman Firefighters Participate in Boston Bruins First Responder Challenge

WHITMAN — Chief Timothy J. Grenno is pleased to announce that four members of the Whitman Fire Department participated in the Boston Bruins First Responder Challenge last weekend at TD Garden.
On Sunday, Jan. 28, Firefighters Steve Foster, Brian Trefry, Scott Figgins and Rich MacKinnon represented Whitman in the one-of-a-kind event, which featured local first responders and fitness enthusiasts competing on a course set up throughout the home of the Bruins.
The event helped raise money for The 100 Club of Massachusetts, a charity that supports the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. This year’s Challenge has raised over $260,000 for the organization so far, including over $3,000 raised by Whitman firefighters.
“I am pleased that we were so well represented at this year’s First Responder Challenge,” Chief Grenno said. “Not only did our firefighters have fun participating in the event, but we were able to help able to raise money and awareness for an organization close to all of our hearts.”
The three-tiered course is run separately by groups that are broken up into a law enforcement division, a firefighter/paramedic division and a civilian division.
Each tier is designed to increase in difficulty and incorporate more of the venue’s stairs and concourses, which first responders complete while wearing all of the gear they would need while carrying out their normal duties.
