Hull Freshman Earns Seat in State Senior District Band

HULL – Principal Paula Girouard McCann is pleased to announce that Hull High School freshman Maeve Donohue earned a seat in the Southeastern Massachusetts Music Educators Association’s Senior District Band and will play in an upcoming festival in January.
The Massachusetts Music Educators Association is a statewide nonprofit organization that supports music education for all students throughout the Commonwealth. The Senior District Band’s festival of events will take place Jan. 5-6 at Bourne High School. Donahue will participate in two intensive rehearsal sessions before the final concert on Jan. 6.
This year, thousands of students across public and private schools in Massachusetts auditioned for the musical event, including three of Hull High School’s top musicians.
On Nov. 18, junior trumpet and French horn player, Sean Healey, junior trumpet player Jimmy Barone and Donahue, also a trumpet player, auditioned at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham.
All three students scored very well in their auditions, especially Donahue, whose skills landed her a seat in the Senior District Band — making her the first student from Hull High School to participate in the Senior District music festival since the 1980s.
“We’re extremely proud of Maeve for earning this opportunity to play with the Senior District Band,” Principal McCann said. “This is a huge accomplishment for a freshman and we’re excited to have a Hull High School representative at the music festival!”
