WHITMAN — Chief Scott D. Benton reports that Whitman Police arrested a man yesterday for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs, and seized a handgun and ammunition.

ROGELIO R. BUCKLEY, AGE 34, OF TAUNTON, is charged with:

  • OUI Drugs
  • Firearm Violation with Three Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
  • Carrying a Firearm Without a License (Third Offense)
  • Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card
  • Improper Storage of a Firearm
  • Following Too Closely

On Tuesday, Nov. 28, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Whitman Police responded to the Stop and Shop parking lot, 575 Bedford St., for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

A male driver told police that he was stopped at a nearby traffic light on Bedford Street when he was struck from behind by the driver of a gray Toyota Camry, later identified as BUCKLEY.

There was no significant damage to either vehicle and no injuries were reported.

As the officer approached BUCKLEY’S vehicle, he observed that BUCKLEY was slumped over the center console and appeared to be falling asleep.

Following an on scene investigation, BUCKLEY was placed under arrest for OUI Drugs. Additionally, when searching BUCKLEY’S vehicle, officers located a Walther P22 handgun and ammunition.

BUCKLEY is being held on $35,000 bail pending his arraignment in Brockton District Court.

“This was great police work by the officers involved,” Chief Benton said. “Due to their keen observations and on scene investigation we were able to remove an illegally owned firearm from our streets.”

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
