Andover Fire Rescue Extinguishes House Fire
ANDOVER — Chief Michael B. Mansfield reports that the Andover Fire Rescue responded to and extinguished a house fire early this morning.
At 1:05 a.m., Andover Fire received a 911 call reporting a fire in the basement of a home at 59 Harold Parker Road and that the home was in the process of being evacuated. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke showing from the home and determined that there was an active fire in the home’s basement.
Andover firefighters were able to bring the fire under control shortly before 2 a.m., and there were no injuries.
Firefighters were able to overcome challenges posed by the distance of the nearest water supply — approximately 2,000 feet — as well as the location of the home, approximately 350 feet from the roadway.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by Andover Fire Rescue, Andover Police and Massachusetts State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey’s Office.
The house was ruled uninhabitable overnight due to the lack of electricity inside. The home sustained approximately $100,000 in damage.
“I want to applaud our firefighters for efficiently extinguishing this fire and saving the home from destruction,” Chief Mansfield said. “I can’t emphasize enough how important a role working smoke detectors played in preventing a tragedy this morning by alerting the residents to the danger and enabling them to evacuate and call for help.”
Andover Fire put out a mutual aid call to Tewksbury and Lawrence Fire Departments to provide station coverage during the incident.
