Gloucester Fire Chief Encourages Participation in 2018 Municipal Firefighter Written Exam
Interested Local Applicants Encouraged to Register
GLOUCESTER – Chief Eric L. Smith encourages local residents interested in pursuing a career with the Gloucester Fire Department to take the 2018 Municipal Firefighter written examination, which has been announced for March.
The exam is scheduled for March 24, with an application deadline of Feb. 21. A late fee will be assessed to those who file their applications later than Feb. 7, so candidates are encouraged to apply early.
“Taking the written examination is one of the first steps for those who want to serve their community by becoming a firefighter,” Chief Smith said. “We’re hopeful to see a large pool of candidates from Gloucester.”
In order to be eligible to apply for a firefighter position, all candidates must be able to meet the following basic qualifications:
- Must be 19 years old on, or before, the date of the test.
- Must be no older than 32 years old on the date of the test. Veterans and active military members must be 36 years old or younger on the test date.
- Pass the civil service written test on March 24.
- Pass the civil service entry level physical abilities test (ELPAT) held in summer 2018.
Those interested in a career with the Gloucester Fire Department must be licensed paramedics.
Interested candidates can get more information at www.mass.gov/civilservice.
