Stratham Memorial School Collects More Than $1,500 through Pennies for Puerto Rico Fundraiser

STRATHAM — Principal Thomas J. Fosher is pleased to announce that fourth and fifth grade students in Stratham Memorial School’s “Pack of Kindness” raised more than $1,500 through their Pennies for Puerto Rico drive.

From Oct. 5-19, collection bags were set up in every classroom for students to fill up with spare change. Over the two week period, members of the Pack of Kindness — which includes 28 fourth grade students and 30 fifth grade students — periodically gathered the bags to compile the change. In total, student separated 959 rolls of coins, totaling $1,615.28.

Earlier this year, fourth grade teachers Amy Beauchesne and Mary Ann Hazeltine wanted to create a group that would give students the opportunity to be a part of projects, programs and initiatives that would benefit other members of the school, community and beyond.

Interested students met and came up with the name “Pack of Kindness” — to coincide with the school’s wolf mascot and embody the mission of the group.

To help those who were affected by the hurricanes in Puerto Rico, the group decided to dedicate their first fundraiser to assist those in need. All money raised was donated to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief.

“Students in the Pack of Kindness did an amazing job with their first event and I’m so impressed with the generosity of all who contributed to this drive,” Principal Fosher said. “It just goes to show that even the smallest donation can make a difference.”
