Esten School Hosts Charity Volleyball Game to Benefit Puerto Rico
ROCKLAND — Members of the Esten Elementary School community joined together last week for a volleyball tournament to raise money for those affected by the hurricanes in Puerto Rico.
A total of 45 players — including of third and fourth graders, paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators and custodians — took turns playing in a round robin rotation in teams dressed in the colors of Puerto Rico’s flag. The blue team ended up as the overall winner.
The event, held on Friday, Oct. 27, helped to raise more than $700, thanks to donations by the participants and the efforts of the Parent Advisory Council to organize a raffle and refreshments.
“A few of our students have family in Puerto Rico, and the Esten community wanted to do something to help,” Principal Marilyn Smith said. “It was inspiring to see so many students and staff members having fun while giving back to those in need.”
The money raised was donated to Massachusetts United for Puerto Rico.
