Rockland High School Celebrates Spirit Week and Homecoming Weekend

ROCKLAND — Principal John Harrison is pleased to report that Rockland High School celebrated its annual spirit week last week, which featured a variety of events that brought together members of the entire RHS community.

The multi-day celebration was made better when students and staff learned that RHS was named a Level 1 School for the fifth straight year by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for its sustained academic excellence on the MCAS exam. 

“Spirit Week is one of the highlights of the year for our school community,” Principal Harrison said. “It truly has something for everyone, and Spirit Week has a unique way of unifying and engaging the entire RHS community.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, RHS competed in a Unified Soccer tournament at Abington High School, bringing together students with developmental disabilities and typically-developing students on a shared sports team, allowing them to enjoy an evening together in a fun environment. The event was made possible by Rockland’s close collaboration with Carver, Abington and East Bridgewater. 

The following day, eight senior boys competed in a talent contest in hopes of earning the title of Mr. Rockland. Four faculty members judged the contest and ultimately awarded the crown to Louis Casey, who will now represent RHS in Rockland’s Veteran’s Day parade next month. 

Oct. 20 featured an entire day school spirit activities, including a pep rally where students wore their class colors and recognized the school’s unsung heroes before participating in grade level competitions and the traditional “roller coaster rides.”

That night, the varsity football team defeated Middleboro, 20-8, to finish their regular season with a 5-2 record. Before the game, senior players, band members and cheerleaders has a chance to be recognized on Senior Night along with their parents. Then, Rockland High students and faculty chose senior Macie Jones as this year’s Ms. Rockland, which is awarded to a student who has served as a positive role model and been involved in activities at the school and in the community. Jones will also represent the school in the upcoming Veteran’s Day Parade. 

Spirit Week and Homecoming Weekend concluded on Oct. 21 with the annual homecoming dance, where seniors Chris Penney and Natalie Draicchio were named king and queen.
