Maynard Fire Department Puts New Aerial Ladder Truck Into Service
MAYNARD — Chief Anthony Stowers is pleased to announce that the Maynard Fire Department’s brand new aerial ladder truck was officially put into service today.
The department purchased the 2017 E-One Cyclone aerial ladder truck through Greenwood Emergency Vehicles in North Attleboro last August after receiving a $750,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) which paid for approximately 75 percent of the total cost of the new apparatus.
“We are so pleased with the final result of this new aerial ladder truck and are confident that it will serve the community for many, many years to come,” Chief Stowers said. “The safety of our residents is our top priority and this new state of the art ladder truck will allow us to continue serving them with the highest quality equipment. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to FEMA for their generous grant, which significantly eased the burden of the cost of this vehicle for taxpayers.”
This new aerial ladder truck replaces Maynard’s 31-year-old 1986 E-One Hurricane Aerial, which no longer meets National Fire Protection Agency standards. The department had originally hoped the truck would be in service in September, but had to take care of a few warranty items first, which caused a small delay.
The E-One Cyclone can seat up to four firefighters inside the cab and still has room to store all necessary equipment. It is also equipped with a pump and pre-piped waterway, which will allow firefighters to pump water directly from the truck, rather than manually running a hose and nozzle to the top of the ladder. Additionally, the new rear-mounted ladder will be four feet longer, providing a better reach than the current ladder.
