Gloucester Fire Department Extinguishes Garage Fire

GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department extinguished a garage fire yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 1:35 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 18, Gloucester firefighters were dispatched to 6 Highland St. on a report of a shed fire. Engines 1, 2 and 4 responded to the scene. Upon arrival, crews observed flames venting from the roof of a single story detached garage and began an aggressive attack.

Firefighters determined that the flames were burning in the void space between the garage’s ceiling and underside of its roof. Crews cut a vent hole above to allow them easier access to the flames. The majority of the fire was extinguished within 11 minutes of the call. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Following a preliminary investigation, the Gloucester Fire Department determined that the fire was most likely caused by an electrical issue.
