Hull High School Announces AP Scholars

HULL — Principal Paula Girouard McCann is pleased to announce that 21 students at Hull High School earned Advanced Placement Scholar Awards following their exceptional achievement on AP exams.

Every year, the College Board, which administers the AP exams, recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance.

The 21 students who earned AP awards will be recognized with a certificate from the Hull School Committee during a meeting on Oct. 16.

Richard Barone and Kiernan Leahy from the Class of 2017 received the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average of a 4 or higher on a five point scale on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Nine members of the Class of 2017 earned the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by scoring an average of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are: Richard Barone, Stacia Foresta, Luis Gonzalez, Daria Healey, Kiernan Leahy, Nolan Palma, James Rosado, Lauren Saniuk and Ethan Wagner.

John Dahill and Aldan Leahy from the Class of 2017 were awarded with the AP Scholar with Honor Award after earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Eight students, six from the Class of 2017 and two from the Class of 2018, qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are Brianna Bennett, Nicole Dreishpoon, Megan Dunn (Class of 2018), Jamie Froio, Dylan Iorio, Emily Menice (Class of 2018), Emily O’Donnell and Erin Shea.

“Congratulations to all of our students who have received recognition from the College Board!” Principal McCann said. “Simply taking an AP course is an accomplishment in itself, so for students to receive these high scores and honors is something they can take tremendous pride in.”

Through more than 30 different college level courses and exams, AP provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to earn college credit or advanced placement at the college level, and stand out from their peers as they navigate the college admissions process.

More than 3,600 colleges and universities annually receive AP grades. More than 90 percent of four-year colleges in the U.S. report that AP students who score a 3 or higher on AP Exams typically experience greater academic success in college and enjoy higher graduation rates than students who do not participate in the AP program as high school students.
