Andover Health Division Recognizes National Immunization Awareness Month
ANDOVER – The Andover Health Department would like to remind residents that August is National Immunization Awareness Month.
National Immunization Awareness Month is meant to highlight the importance of vaccinations, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared as one of the top 10 public health achievements of the 20th century.
Each week of National Immunization Awareness Month features a specific theme:
• July 31 – August 6: Infants and Children
• August 7 – 13: Pregnant Women
• August 14 – 20: Adults
• August 21 – 27: Preteens and Teens
• August 28 – September 1: Back to School Special
An article will be posted on the Massachusetts Department of Public Health blog each week corresponding with the selected theme.
This year, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Immunization Program is also participating in the American Cancer Society National HPV Roundtable “We’re In!” campaign — a national call to action for organizations to show their commitment to HPV vaccination to decrease Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) related cancers through advocacy, communication and education.
The Andover Health Department offers almost all types of immunizations including the Shingles vaccine, Tdap, Prevnar — PCV 13, Pneumovax 23, MMR, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Meningitis and Gardasil. The annual flu vaccination clinics are scheduled in the Fall.
For more information about available vaccines or to schedule an appointment, contact the Andover Health Division at 978-623-8640.
