The Arlington Police Department arrested three individuals who allegedly fled from an attempted traffic stop in a stolen car and collided with multiple vehicles.

Arlington Police Arrest Three For Fleeing In Stolen Car And Striking Police Cruiser

ARLINGTON — Chief Frederick A. Ryan reports that the Arlington Police Department arrested three individuals who allegedly fled from an attempted traffic stop in a stolen car and collided with multiple vehicles earlier today.

A 16-YEAR-OLD MALE JUVENILE was arrested and charged with:

  • Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle
  • Negligent Operation
  • Unlicensed Operation
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Leaving the Scene of Property Damage (four counts)
  • Failure to Stop For a Red Light (two counts)
  • Speeding
  • Failure to Stop for a Stop Sign
  • Marked Lanes Violation

Additionally, ISIAH N. SMITH, AGE 19, OF LAWRENCE, and a second 16-YEAR-OLD MALE JUVENILE, were arrested and charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., an Arlington Police Inspector was conducting an unrelated investigation in the area of the Germaine Lawrence School when he spotted a suspicious vehicle, which an Arlington Police Dispatcher confirmed had been reported stolen out of Lawrence.

A description of the vehicle and its occupants was broadcast to other Arlington Police officers, and it was located shortly thereafter by an officer patrolling on Florence Avenue. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the JUVENILE driver allegedly fled north on Park Avenue and then onto Massachusetts Avenue, where he struck a MBTA bus and an Arlington Police cruiser before stopping.

All three suspects were then taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

“I am very grateful that nobody was hurt as a result of the recklessness that was on display in this case,” Chief Ryan said. “I am proud of our officers for showing extraordinary poise when faced with an extremely dangerous situation.”

The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
