Stoneham Police Seeking Suspect Following Alleged Assault On Officers

STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department is actively seeking a man who allegedly assaulted officers, then struck a police cruiser with his vehicle and fled the scene early this morning.

Stoneham Police will be requesting an arrest warrant against MATTHEW MACINNES, AGE 33, OF TEWKSBURYon numerous charges and violations, including:

  • Assault And Battery On A Police Officer (two counts)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Malicious Destruction Of Property Over $250
  • Leaving The Scene Of A Property Damage
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure To Stop For Police
  • Operating To Endanger
  • Marked Lanes Violation
  • Failure To Slow
  • Failure To Yield (two counts)

At approximately 2:15 a.m., police responded to a reported disturbance on Main Street. Upon arrival, officers conducted a preliminary investigation and informed MACINNES that he would be placed under arrest as a result of their investigation. At that time, MACINNES allegedly punched one of the officers as they attempted to take him into custody, and then fled on foot.

Officers pursued MACINNES toward the intersection of Wilson and Parkway Roads, where he entered his parked truck and locked himself inside as an officer parked his marked cruiser behind the truck. MACINNES then allegedly accelerated into a cruiser parked in front of him, pushing it into the intersection, before making a right and driving away at a high rate of speed.

Police pursued MACINNES onto Interstate 93, but called off the chase in the interest of safety after speeds reached in excess of 100 mph.

Stoneham Police then contacted the Massachusetts State Police to issue a BOLO for MACINNES, who remains at large.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of MACINNES, they are urged to contact Stoneham Police at 781-438-1215.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
