On Saturday, July 9, Gloucester Police responded to DIVA (Donna’s Infinite Variety of Adornments), located at 161 Main St., for a report of a past larceny.

Upon arrival, a police officer spoke with the store owner, who stated that a man walked into her store the previous day and claimed he recently had jewelry stolen from his residence, and was looking to replace the items with his insurance money.

The owner told police that after the man selected several pieces from the display case, he asked that they be boxed up and he would return after running errands to purchase them.

The man never returned, and while the owner was putting the items back in the display case, she noticed six pieces worth an estimated $8,625 missing.

After reviewing video surveillance footage, the owner was able to provide a still image of the suspect to police. He is described as a white heavy set man in his 40s or 50s, who is balding with gray hair, with a mermaid tattooed on his left arm and Jesus tattooed on his right arm.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect in the photo, or who was in the area at the time of the larceny, is asked to contact the Gloucester Police Department at 978-283-1212.
