Ipswich Police Release Update On Officer Struck While Working Road Detail

IPSWICH — Chief Paul A. Nikas reports that the Ipswich Police officer struck by a dump truck yesterday morning while working a road detail remains hospitalized as a result of his injuries.

Officer Ted Lemieux, a retired member of the Ipswich Police Department working part time for the department, underwent surgery last night for a leg injury after being transferred to a Middlesex County hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

At 8:44 a.m., Friday, June 30, Lemieux was working a detail on Linebrook Road for a road paving project when he was struck by a dump truck that was reversing with a load of hot top, which was part of the paving job. The truck’s driver has cooperated fully with police throughout the investigation.

“This is an ongoing and active investigation,” Chief Nikas said. “At this point, it is too early to say whether or not there will be any sort of citations or charges as a result of this crash.”

The Ipswich Police Department also wishes to thank those who have reached out to offer support for Lemieux and the department.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank all the citizens who have called in to offer their thoughts and prayers for Officer Lemieux and his family, as well as area police departments that have called to offer their assistance,” Chief Nikas said.

The Ipswich Police Department is continuing to investigate along with help from the Massachusetts State Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
