Maynard Fire Department Battles 3-Alarm Fire in Multi-Unit Residential Building
MAYNARD — Fire Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department responded to a fire in a residential building early Wednesday.
Shortly before 7 a.m., firefighters responded to a reported kitchen fire at 34 Sudbury St., a 4-unit apartment building. Upon arrival, units saw heavy fire showing in a second floor apartment. Firefighters made their way up a narrow rear stairway to get to the fire and ultimately knocked it down, keeping the damage to one unit.
A three-alarm response was requested, largely for added manpower due to the ongoing high temperatures in the region. One firefighter had to be transported to a local hospital for heat-related illness. No residents were hurt, and one woman was assisted to safety by firefighters.
Firefighters from Sudbury, Stow, Acton, Concord, Boxborough, Littleton, Hudson, and Lincoln responded. The fire was under control within an hour.
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Maynard Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.
