City of Rochester Completing Codification of General Ordinances
ROCHESTER — City Manager Dan Fitzpatrick is pleased to announce that Rochester has begun the process of codifying its General Ordinances.
In March 2016, the city hired General Code, a New York based company, to create a comprehensive index and user-friendly search engine, as well as conduct a complete legal review of all City General Ordinances.
“As the City of Rochester continues to improve and modernize its digital platforms, this project will make city government more accessible and easier to understand for potential residents, developers and business owners,” City Manager Fitzpatrick said. “Our goal is to make this process run as smoothly as possible.”
General Code is currently in the process of conducting the legal review of Rochester’s existing General Ordinances and all recent amendments. Upon completion of this process, the city attorney, city clerk, deputy city manager and other staff members will meet to review the recommended changes, which will be presented to the entire City Council and voted upon.
Of the ordinances updated thus far, residents should be aware of several important updates including Chapter 23, which prohibits the display of fireworks, except on the Fourth of July holiday.
