Andover Water Treatment Plant Lab Receives Certificate of Excellence

ANDOVER — Town Manager Andrew P. Flanagan is pleased to report that the Andover Water Treatment Plant Lab has been recognized as a Laboratory of Excellence by Environmental Resource Associates, Inc., and will maintain its laboratory certification status.

In order to gain or maintain laboratory certification in Massachusetts and be able to report acceptable data, a lab must meet and follow specific standards set by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). According to this policy, a laboratory seeking to maintain certification must successfully participate in a performance testing (PT) study at least once each year.

Andover’s PT study was conducted by Environmental Resource Associates, Inc., an independent firm approved by the Massachusetts DEP for lab proficiency certification and microbiology analysis. The study, which included 678 participating labs, ran from April 10, 2015 to May 25, 2017, and Andover’s Water Treatment Plant Lab received a certificate of excellence for achieving 100 percent acceptable data.

“We strive for excellence in all aspects of quality of life here in Andover,” Town Manager Flanagan said. “I am proud of all of the hard work that our municipal services department has consistently done to achieve this recognition and, more importantly, provide our residents with the safest possible drinking water.”
