Ipswich Public Health Department to Celebrate National Volunteer Week

IPSWICH — The Ipswich Public Health Department is pleased to announce that it will celebrate National Volunteer Week.

This year, National Volunteer Week is held from April 23-29. It recognizes and thanks the people who volunteer and dedicate their time to causes they care about in their community.

In honor of National Volunteer Week, the Ipswich Public Health Department is encouraging residents to consider joining the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), a national network of local groups of volunteers who work to improve the health and safety of their communities.

Medical Reserve Corps units are community-based and function as a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers who want to donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies, and promote healthy living throughout the year. Volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources.

“We want people to know they don’t need any medical experience to become an MRC volunteer, and hope that by celebrating our own volunteers, we will inspire others to serve,” Director of Public Health Colleen Fermon said. “People of all skill levels and backgrounds are welcome, and we will provide valuable training free of charge.”
