Arlington Council on Aging Wins National Flu Shot Challenge
ARLINGTON – The Arlington Department of Health and Human Services is pleased to announce that the Council on Aging has been awarded $5,000 for winning first place in the National Flu Shot Challenge.
The Arlington Council on Aging received the check from the National Council on Aging (NCOA) for having the highest percentage of seniors who received flu shots this fall. The NCOA created the friendly competition with the goal of increasing flu vaccination totals among seniors across the country.
From Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, the Arlington Council on Aging was required to track the number of flu shots they provided to seniors and then submit their totals to the NCOA. Out of the total number of flu shots administered in Arlington during the two month span, 469 were given to seniors, making Arlington the town with the highest percentage of vaccinated seniors in the country.
“We are so excited to win this competition, but even more pleased that so many seniors came and got their flu shots,” Executive Director of the Arlington Council on Aging Susan Carp said. “This prize money will be incredibly beneficial to us as we continue to improve programs for the seniors in our community.”
The Arlington Department of Health and Human Services encourages all residents to get their flu shots each year. For more information about flu clinics or how to get vaccinated, contact the Arlington Department of Health and Human Services at 781-316-3170.
