Reading Police Charge Boston Man after Multiple Armed Robberies

READING — Chief Mark D. Segalla reports that the Reading Police Department has arrested a Boston man and charged him in connection with two armed robberies that occurred in December.

After an investigation by Reading Police Detectives, MICHAEL J. LEONARD, AGE 34, OF CHARLESTOWN turned himself in to Woburn District Court on Monday after Reading Police obtained a warrant for his arrest.

LEONARD is charged with:

  • Armed and Masked Robbery (2 Counts)
  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (2 Counts)

The charges stem from the Dec. 27, 2016 armed robbery of the P&S Convenience Store on Lowell Street and the Dec. 29, 2016 armed robbery of JK’s market on Main Street.

Chief Segalla praised Reading Police Detectives for their hard work in bringing these cases to a successful conclusion.

“This is a example of fine detective work in tracking down leads and ultimately arresting a suspect who attempted to hide his identity during his crimes,” Chief Segalla said.

LEONARD will be arraigned in Woburn District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
