Andover Police Arrest Suspect in December’s Double Shooting
ANDOVER — Chief Patrick Keefe reports that the Andover Police Department arrested a violent fugitive wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred in December.
LUIS EDGARDO MORALES, JR., AGE 24, OF LAWRENCE was arrested and charged with:
- Assault and Battery Dangerous Weapon
- Armed Robbery (Two Counts)
- Armed Assault to Murder (Two Counts)
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Possession of a Firearm without a License
MORALES was arrested on Thursday in the City of Methuen by Andover police detectives working in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.
The suspect was wanted after an investigation into a Dec. 8, 2016 double shooting at the Shawsheen Plaza on North Main Street in Andover. MORALES was identified as the alleged shooter.
MORALES was ordered held on $200,000 cash bail and will be arraigned Friday in Essex County Superior Court in Salem.
The Andover Police Department would like to thank any and all officers involved in this case and all members of the community who came forward and provided information that helped solve this case. Chief Keefe also singled out two detectives who were instrumental in closing a case that shook the entire community.
“I would like to congratulate Detective Kevin Aufiero and Detective James Moses for their tireless efforts in solving this case,” said Chief Keefe. “Strong investigative work by our detectives and partners in the State Police helped ensure that a violent fugitive was taken off the streets this week.”
