Georgetown Fire Department Reminds Residents to Clear Fire Hydrants of Snow

GEORGETOWN – After two storms have left significant amounts of snow in town, Chief Fred Mitchell is asking that residents help the Georgetown Fire Department by clearing snow from fire hydrants near their homes and businesses.

Seconds matter during an emergency, and ensuring that crews have a clear path to fire hydrants can make the difference in saving a structure, or more importantly, saving a life in the event of a fire.

The Georgetown Fire Department asks that residents clear at least 3 feet of space around fire hydrants to allow firefighters adequate space to access water in case of a fire.

“We have gotten a lot of snow from these two recent storms and would greatly appreciate if residents who are able can assist us by removing snow from nearby fire hydrants,” Chief Mitchell said. “This is a tremendous help to the fire department and we thank everyone in advance for their assistance.”
