Gloucester Fire Department Responds to Motor Vehicle Crash

GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash in which they had to extricate two people from their vehicle today.

Incident Commander Deputy Chief Steve Aiello stated that at approximately 2:50 p.m., the Gloucester Fire Department responded to Route 128 southbound for a report of an overturned vehicle just south of Grant Circle.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a Jeep Grand Cherokee overturned on its side. Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and removed the two occupants, a 71-year-old female and a 75-year-old male.

An initial investigation indicates that the 71-year-old female driver lost control as she accelerated onto Route 128 from the rotary circle.

Firefighters from Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and Rescue 2 responded to the scene. Route 128 remained closed for approximately 20 minutes during the extrication process.
