Arlington Police Department to Conduct Alcohol Compliance Checks of Local Establishments
ARLINGTON — Chief Frederick Ryan announces that the Arlington Police Department, in conjunction with the Arlington Youth Health and Safety Coalition (AYHSC), will be completing alcohol compliance checks at local establishments licensed to sell alcohol in the upcoming months.
“We conduct these regular compliance checks in an effort to prevent the sale and consumption of alcohol to underage residents and to ensure that local licensees and their employees continue to be vigilant in obeying the law,” Chief Ryan said. “We hope to find that all establishments in town are in compliance.”
Lawful alcohol compliance checks are vital in ensuring that establishments obey the laws pertaining to the sale of alcohol, especially with regard to underage drinking. Alcohol consumption by minors has a profound effect on the community and is related to motor vehicle crashes, crime, poor performance in school, and a number of other behaviors that could have an adverse impact on the quality of life in town.
In addition to regular alcohol compliance checks being conducted by police, the AYHSC is currently implementing strategies to help reduce the number of alcohol sales to minors and underage drinking in town. These strategies include social norms marketing outreach, coordinating student prevention clubs at the Ottoson Middle School and Arlington High School, and conducting Sticker Shock campaigns that warn individuals not to buy alcohol for youth under the age of 21.
Arlington Police intend to conduct compliance checks over the next several months. They will continue to do so periodically to ensure the safety of youth in the community and that licensed establishments are in compliance with the law.
The Arlington Police Department would like to thank the community for their continued efforts and support to help keep Arlington’s youth safe.
