Bridgewater Police Investigating Crash Involving Car and Train

BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department, the MBTA Transit Police, and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office are investigating a crash involving a freight train and a motor vehicle that left a man with life-threatening injuries.

Bridgewater Police responded at 3 a.m. Friday to a location about 1/2 mile west of the Oak Street railroad crossing in Bridgewater after receiving reports from a resident and from CSX Corporation indicating a freight train had struck a motor vehicle on the tracks.

Police officers quickly located the vehicle, and officers along with Bridgewater Fire Department paramedics performed emergency medical services on the driver of the vehicle, who was the lone occupant.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to Brockton Hospital with serious injuries that are considered life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver made a right turn off Oak Street onto the railroad tracks and was stopped on the tracks at the time of the crash. The vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage from the impact.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
