STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department is searching for a man who allegedly robbed a bank in town this afternoon.

Just after 3:30 p.m., Stoneham Police responded to a reported robbery at Salem Five Bank, 88 Main St.

The suspect, approximately six feet tall with a thin build and deep voice, fled before police arrived. He was allegedly in the bank for about one minute.

The suspect demanded money from the teller. No weapon was shown, but the suspect threatened he had a gun. The man then fled on foot toward Marie Avenue with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black ski mask and dark sunglasses, a green hooded coat zipped all the way up, blue jeans, black gloves and black sneakers. No skin was visible.

The incident remains under investigation by the Stoneham Police Department and the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force.
