NORTH HAVEN – Chief Paul Januszewski reports that the North Haven Fire Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash Friday morning involving four vehicles.
Firefighters and paramedics responded at 5:54 a.m. to the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Hartford Turnpike. Upon arrival at 6 a.m., rescuers found four cars crashed and five people involved.
A preliminary investigation suggests that a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling Westbound on Dixwell Avenue when it was involved in a crash with a 2005 Toyota Rav 4. The force of the crash sent the vehicles into two other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection: a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander and a 1999 Honda Civic.
Four total patients were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital by American Medical Response:
- A 43-year-old male from the Hyundai, with serious injuries
- A 38-year-old female from the Hyundai, with serious injuries
- The 30-year-old male driver of the Honda
- The approximately 40-year-old female driver of the Toyota
Officials are still determining which patient from the Hyundai was the driver. The patients were thrown from their seats and had to be extricated by North Haven firefighters.
The driver of the Chevrolet declined medical treatment at the scene.
“This was a very serious crash involving multiple vehicles and multiple patients. I want to commend our firefighters for their diligent work in assessing the patients and rescuing multiple trapped occupants,” Chief Januszewski said.
Sunrise was at 7 a.m. Friday, and conditions were dark at the time.
The incident is under investigation by the North Haven Police Department.
