Bridgewater Police Arrest Intoxicated Person Illegally Armed with Handgun

BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department arrested a man for unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting arrest after being escorted out of a local bar.

DAVID LeMEÉ, AGE 37, OF BRIDGEWATER is been charged with:

• Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (two counts)
• Carrying an Unlicensed Firearm (two counts)
• Carrying a Firearm while Intoxicated (two counts)
• Carrying a Loaded Firearm (two counts)
• Threat to Commit a Crime (two counts)
• Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
• Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
• Resisting Arrest
• Disorderly Conduct

On Wednesday, Nov. 30, at approximately 6:45 p.m., officers responded to Barrett’s Ale House, 425 Bedford St., on a report of an individual refusing to leave the establishment after being declined drinks.

Upon arrival, officers observed LeMEÉ displaying signs of intoxication. The officers offered to give LeMEÉ a ride home, to which he agreed. As officers were placing LeMEÉ in the cruiser, they felt an object in his side pocket. A preliminary investigation on scene determined that LeMEÉ was unlawfully carrying a firearm.

LeMEÉ then attempted to gain control of the handgun and threatened responding officers. Police gained control of the firearm and placed LeMEÉ in custody before transferring him to a local hospital for evaluation.

A subsequent search revealed a second loaded firearm sewn into the lining of LeMEÉ’s coat.

“The Barrett’s staff did the right thing by recognizing a problem and calling for assistance,” Chief Delmonte said.“I commend both Officers Peter Balboni and Nicholas Chmielinski for their quick action to prevent what could have become a violent situation in a crowded place.”
