Andover Fire Rescue Quells House Fire
ANDOVER — Chief Michael B. Mansfield reports that Andover Fire Rescue fought a one-alarm house fire earlier today.
At approximately 6:45 a.m., Andover Fire responded to 15 Iron Gate Drive for a report of a dryer fire in the home.
On arrival, firefighters found the dryer, its contents, and surrounding items on fire in the laundry room. The sole occupant of the home evacuated before crews arrived on scene. No injuries have been reported.
The fire was confined to the laundry room. The first floor of the home sustained moderate smoke damage and minor water damage. The dryer was removed from the home and adjacent areas of the laundry room were checked to ensure there was no extension.
Tewksbury and Lawrence fire departments provided station coverage while Andover crews responded to the scene.
“We recommend that residents do not leave clothes in the dryer for an extended period of time, especially if they will not be home,” Chief Mansfield said. “This fire had the potential to cause severe damage had the homeowner not been there to call us immediately.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Andover Fire Rescue Investigator, Deputy Chief Al DelDotto.
