DRACUT — The NEMLEC Police Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that they hosted a Comedy Night Benefit to support police training, programs and services, and to honor Retired Boston Police Superintendent-in-Chief Robert Faherty for his work with Cops for Kids with Cancer.
The fundraiser was held on Friday, Oct. 28 at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut. Stand-up comedian and former Middlesex District Attorney Paul D’Angelo headlined the show, which sold out to more than 200 people, including many area police chiefs and representatives from organizations within NEMLEC. The comedy benefit is one of several events hosted by the NEMLEC Foundation every year to raise money to support police training.
“We were so proud to create more exposure for NEMLEC and receive so much support from our member police chiefs during this event,” said Foundation Director Sharon Crowley. “On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to thank everyone who helped put this event together, donated raffle items, and especially to Chief Faherty for the amazing work he has done for Cops for Kids with Cancer.”
Boston Police Commissioner William Evans attended the event and spoke highly of Chief Faherty, who recently stepped down as Chairman of the Board for Cops for Kids with Cancer. Commissioner Evans, who lost his mother to cancer before he was three years old, thanked Chief Faherty and said the organization speaks to the work that police departments do to support families in need.
Additionally, Commissioner Evans thanked NEMLEC for its work with the Boston Police Department, including assistance from the NEMLEC SWAT/RRT team and NEMLEC Motor Unit. NEMLEC has helped with championship parades and celebrations for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins, and for larger scale events like the Democratic National Convention, as well as work with Boston Police and Watertown Police in the days following the Boston Marathon bombing.
To show their support for Chief Faherty and all of the work he has done to help those families with sick children, the Foundation presented him a plaque and a check for $5,000 to Cops for Kids with Cancer.
