MELROSE — Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School Principal Brent Conway is pleased to announce that students and staff dressed in white shirts and jeans last week to show support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) community.

On Tuesday, Oct. 11, teachers, staff and students participated in the schools’s Support LGBTQ Day, which coincides with National Coming Out Day. Together, they wore jeans and a white shirt to demonstrate solidarity.

Members of MVMMS’ Gay-Straight Alliance assisted in promoting the cause and passed out rainbow ribbons for all to wear.

“We always want to ensure that our students, no matter their sexual orientation, gender, race, or religion feel safe and free to be themselves while at school,” Principal Conway said. “This was a great cause for us all to take part in and I was happy to see so many students stand in support with their LGBTQ peers.”
