ARLINGTON — Chief Frederick Ryan reports that the Arlington Police Department is releasing the names of those involved in yesterday’s water rescue when a woman drove her vehicle into Spy Pond.

JOYCE HENRY, AGE 68, OF MEDFORD will not face criminal charges in yesterday’s incident. The Arlington Police Department will, however, make an immediate threat notification to the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV). This notification will trigger a review by the RMW into HENRY’S ability to drive safely.
On Friday, Oct. 14, at approximately 1:02 p.m., HENRY was allegedly attempting to back into a parking spot on Linwood Circle when she drove her Ford Edge SUV over a curb and into Spy Pond.
Three good Samaritans – DAVID FRASIER, AGE 54, OF BOXFORD, CESAR PEROZO, AGE 41, OF STONEHAM, and KENNETH CHAPMAN, AGE 57, OF SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – jumped into the water and were able to rescue HENRY, who was conscious and alert when pulled from the water. HENRY was cold, but otherwise unhurt.
The vehicle was removed from Spy Pond today by Arlington Police with assistance from Arlington Fire and Cambridge Fire.
“I commend the teamwork and courage of everyone involved in this incident, from the rescuers who fearlessly ran into the water to our officers and firefighters who executed the car removal today,” Chief Ryan said. “In a week filled with tragic news, and as our brother officers from Boston fight for their lives, this happy ending was more than welcome.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Arlington Police Department.
