*Media Advisory* Maynard Fire to Conduct Live Burns for Training
MAYNARD — Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department will conduct a two-day firefighter training, which will include rescue operations and live burns on a property in town.
WHEN
Wednesday, Oct. 19 and Thursday, Oct. 20
WHERE
1 Rockland Ave.
WHAT
The training will take place over the course of two days. The first day will focus on Rapid Intervention Team training, where firefighters will practice rescuing themselves and fellow firefighters during an emergency. Firefighters from Acton, Stow, and Concord will also participate in day 1 of training.
The second day will concentrate on putting out fires in real time. Live fires will take place throughout the day on Oct. 20 on designated property. There will be a large number of fire apparatus in the area, which may restrict access on and around Rockland Avenue.
Permission for this training was granted by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. The Maynard Department of Public Works will put up temporary fencing around the area, and debris is expected to be removed within 30 days of the training.
“Hands-on trainings are essential for a firefighter’s growth and development as a public safety official,” Chief Stowers said. “Conducting a live burn is one of the best ways to teach real-time strategy and life saving measures. We appreciate our residents’ patience and support as we train to become even better firefighters.”
Any residents with questions or concerns are asked to contact Chief Stowers at 978-897-1016.
