Ten Displaced Following Multi-Unit House Fire in Taunton

TAUNTON – Chief Timothy Bradshaw reports the Taunton Fire Department extinguished a multi-unit house fire that displaced 10 residents on Saturday afternoon.

On Sept. 17, just before 2:30 p.m., Engines 1, Engine 3, Engine 4, Ladder 3, and Car 2 responded to 67 Summer St. for a report of a fire in a bathroom ventilation fan.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with light smoke coming from the first floor apartment, and once crews entered the bathroom, found that the ventilation fan was on fire. After removing all tenants from the home, crews from Engine 1, Engine 3 and Ladder 3 extinguished the flames with a hand line.

During the fire, the building’s power and gas lines were shut off by Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant and Columbia Gas. The Taunton Emergency Management Agency and Red Cross arrived on scene to assist the displaced residents.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Taunton Fire Department and the State Fire Marshall’s Office.

“I am pleased with both the quick work and diligence of Taunton’s firefighters during this incident,” Chief Bradshaw said. “Our crews quickly identified the source of the flames and ensure that the home did not sustain more serious damage.”
