Newburyport Police and Fire Respond to Crash Involving Semi-truck

NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray reports that the Newburyport Police Department today responded to a crash where a semi-truck pulled down five utility poles on Low Street.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., Newburyport Police responded to the report of a crash on Low Street at the intersection of Zabriskie Drive.

According to police, a semi-truck traveling on Low Street got stuck on the wire of a utility pole and, as a result, pulled the pole down along with four others. Wires from the utility poles fell on four other cars. No one was injured.

National Grid, Newburyport Police and Newburyport Fire all remain on scene. Low Street will be closed between Toppans Lane and North Atkinson Street until further notice.

Police have notified the Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority that Low Street will be closed. Salter Transportation was also notified and some school buses were rerouted.  Officers were also available to assist students who were walking home from school.
