Amesbury Firefighters Battle Fire on Birchmeadow Road Friday

AMESBURY — Fire Chief Kenneth E. Berkenbush reports that Amesbury Fire Rescue firefighters battled a structure fire on Friday afternoon and were able to make a quick and aggressive attack, saving the house from destruction.

Firefighters responded at 3:56 p.m. to 22 Birchmeadow road and arrived within minutes to find a fire that appeared to start on a deck and extended into the home. A neighbor had thrown buckets of water on the fire to try to quell it, and firefighters joined with a hoseline to extinguish the fire,

No injuries were reported, and thanks to the quick thinking of the neighbor and fast work of firefighters, damages were kept to abut $5,000, according to Chief Berkenbush.

The Salisbury Fire Department also responded to the scene and provided station coverage during the incident.
