Chelmsford Police Investigating Motor Vehicle Crash Involving Pedestrian

CHELMSFORD – Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred Thursday morning.

Chelmsford Police and Fire responded at approximately 5:45 a.m. for a report of a person struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Glenn Avenue and Chelmsford Street.

Upon arrival, rescuers found a 59-year-old Glenn Avenue resident who had been struck by a Jeep while he was crossing Glenn Avenue. The victim was taken to Lowell General Hospital by ambulance before being transported to a Boston hospital via medical helicopter. His injuries are considered serious.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the 40-year-old male driver, a resident of Lowell, was in the left lane of Chelmsford Street making a left turn onto Glenn Avenue when he struck the victim. It is not known if the victim was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck.

The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section responded to assist. Chelmsford Police are investigating the incident.
