Shirley Police Department Investigating Serious Overnight Motor Vehicle Crash

SHIRLEY — Chief Thomas Goulden reports that the Shirley Police Department is investigating a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred last night and caused localized power outages in town.

Shirley Police and Fire responded on Tuesday, June 7 at 10:07 p.m. to the area of 80 Lawton Road for a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, responders found a 2017 Kia Sorrento crossover sport utility vehicle that had struck a utility pole and was fully engulfed in flames.

The operator of the vehicle was not present at the time. Officers soon learned that he walked home and was transported to an area hospital by family members. His condition is not known at this time. He is a 25-year-old man from Shirley.

Shirley Police will cite the driver for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Operating to Endanger. He will be summonsed to Ayer District Court at a later date.

The crash caused a power outage in the area.

The incident is being actively investigated by the Shirley Police Department.
