Bedford Police to Host Bicycle Safety Day on May 28

BEDFORD – Chief Robert Bongiorno announces the Bedford Police Department, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Bedford, will host a bicycle and helmet safety event at the end of the month.

Residents are encouraged to stop by the Bedford Police Department’s parking lot, 2 Mudge Way, on Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Free helmets will be given out to children, and cyclists can take a spin on the test track area that will be set up for the event.

Last year, over 120 bike helmets were distributed by the Rotary Club of Bedford. While the helmets are designed for children, the club encourages adults to purchase their own helmets.

“We look forward to hosting another successful bike and helmet safety event with the police department,” said resident Ralph Hammond, the rotary member leading the effort. “Bicycle education goes a long way towards our children’s safety as they start to spend more time outside during the summer months.”

Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Bedford and the Bedford Friends of the Minuteman Bikeway will assist with proper helmet fitting.

Bedford Farms will also be on sight to provide free ice cream.

“We are thankful for the generous donations of helmets, time, support, and resources from both the Rotary Club of Bedford and the Bedford Friends of the Minuteman Bikeway,” Chief Bongiorno said. “Last year’s event was very successful, but without their collaboration, it would not be possible.”
