Melrose High School Students Submit Videos for AMP It Up! Challenge

MELROSE — Melrose High School Principal Marianne Farrell is pleased to announce that three student videos have been entered in the AMP it up! Challenge.

AMP it up! invites students to research the inner workings of an advanced manufacturing innovation to explain how it impacts the world around them in a three-minute video. Entries had to capture three main ideas about a product, including how it’s made, why it matters and what it means to the creator of the video.

“This is a great opportunity for students to highlight their creativity while getting experience on a large scale research project,” Principal Farrell said. “Our students did a fantastic job on these projects and we’re excited and hopeful to see how they do in the competition.”

Three student groups worked together to pick a product, interview and record those involved, and produce a video they could proudly submit to the AMP it up! Challenge.

Schools have until May 13 to turn in their videos. Submissions are viewed by a panel of judges and voted on by the public. Winners are announced on June 1 and are then invited to screen their video at the New England Chapter of the Association of Unmanned Vehicles International 2016 Expo in Devens, Mass.

Additionally, the winning high school video will earn a $5,000 cash prize donated to their school.

“Our students were able to put the skills they have learned in the classroom to use by working on a project that they really care about,” said Anthony DiBenedetto, Video Production Teacher at MHS. “Each group demonstrated a clear understanding of the material and challenge by creating a unique product that we hope will earn a spot in the finals and have a chance to be voted on by the community!”
