Maynard Announces Creation of Fire Station Building Committee
MAYNARD — Town Administrator Kevin Sweet and Fire Chief Anthony Stowers are pleased to announce that, at the request of the Maynard Board of Selectmen, a Fire Station Building Committee is in the process of forming and is in need of two additional members.
The Town has been working with Dore & Whittier, a Newburyport architectural firm, since July 2015 to determine the feasibility of renovating and adding on to either the existing fire station, located at 1 Summer St., or the Town Hall, at 195 Main St.
However, because both of those locations presented specific challenges moving forward with the fire station project, the Board of the Selectmen decided to assemble a committee to determine a suitable location for a new facility and to generate funding ideas.
The Fire Station Building Committee will meet periodically and is expected to submit a report with recommendations to the Board of Selectmen no later than Jan. 4, 2017 at their regular meeting.
As an initial step toward finding a suitable location for a new fire station, the Town has posted a request for proposal (RFP) to purchase land. The RFP is for anyone who is interested in selling land to the town for the purpose of building a fire station. Those who are interested in submitting an RFP can obtain the parameters at the Town Hall during regular business hours.
Although the committee has met twice to date, they are still looking for two additional members from the public. Residents interested in serving on the Fire Station Building Committee should contact Chief Stowers at 978-897-1015 or Town Administrator Sweet at 978-897-1375.
