Driver Crashes into Chelmsford Police Cruiser on 495

CHELMSFORD — Chief James Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department responded to Interstate 495 northbound tonight after an elderly woman crashed into a police cruiser while the officer was inside the vehicle.

Around 8:30 p.m., police received a report that an 71-year-old woman, who was traveling northbound on Interstate 495, crashed into the back of a police cruiser parked near exit 37. The officer was inside the vehicle at the time working a construction detail.

The woman and the officer were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles sustained serious damage.

Chelmsford Police and the Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate this incident.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
