Melrose Public Schools Announce Upcoming Events for Visual and Performing Arts Department
MELROSE – Superintendent Cyndy Taymore is pleased to announce the spring schedule of events for the district’s Visual and Performing Arts Department.
“We have a busy rest of the year, full of exciting trips and performances for students,” Superintendent Taymore said. “We are excited to be able to offer these opportunities to students and encourage community members to attend the citywide events.”
Annual Art Exhibit
The exhibit features art from students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade and is free and open to the public.
WHERE:
Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, 350 Lynn Fells Parkway
WHEN:
Artwork will be on display April 11 through May 2, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The school is not open to the public on weekends or during school vacation week.
Boston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concert Field Trip

WHEN:
Wednesday, April 27
There will be an 8 a.m. departure from Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School. Students will return to their respective schools by noon. This field trip is for children in fourth grade through eighth grade.
MHS Drama Performance of the Musical “Les Misérables”

Friday, April 29 at 7 p.m.
Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

MHS and MVMMS Spring Choral Concert

MHS Marching Band to Perform in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.
The marching band was nominated and selected to represent Massachusetts in the parade.
The National Memorial Day Parade is a time for the nation to show pride and pay respects to the American veterans of this country that sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

Memorial Day Weekend: Friday, May 27 through Monday, May 30.
“Our award-winning programs are great ways for students to be able to express themselves through different mediums,” said Deborah DiFruscia, district director of the Visual and Performing Arts Department. “We are extremely proud of our students’ accomplishments this year, especially all those who have work in the art exhibit, those who are acting in Les Mis and our marching band — which is sure to wow the crowd during the National Memorial Day Parade.”
