Statement of Maynard Town Administrator Kevin Sweet Regarding Arrest of Firefighter

Maynard Town Administrator Kevin Sweet issues the following statement regarding the arrest of a firefighter yesterday.

“The arrest of longtime firefighter James Andrew MacGillivary is extremely disappointing. These allegations are deeply disturbing and are an abuse of public trust. We offer our support to the victim and the victim’s family during this difficult time.

“I would like to praise the diligent, hard work of the Maynard Police Department, whose officers conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations of sexual assault. Due to the results of this investigation, we are planning to hold a termination hearing next month.

“At this time, there is not much more we can share given the seriousness of these allegations and sensitive information pertaining to the victim. We are actively working with the Middlsex District Attorney’s Office to assist them with their investigation going forward.

“We remain committed to maintaining transparency in Maynard and welcome residents to call my office with any questions or concerns. We will continue to keep our citizens informed as more information becomes available.”
