Maynard Firefighter Charged with Rape of a Child

MAYNARD — Police Chief Mark Dubois reports that a Maynard firefighter, who earlier this month was placed on administrative leave, was arrested today after an investigation by the Maynard Police Department into allegations of sexual assault.

JAMES ANDREW MACGILLIVARY, AGE 59, OF MAYNARD was arrested at his home on Thursday. He is charged with Rape of a Child with Force, from an incident that allegedly occurred in 1991.

MACGILLIVARY has been a Maynard firefighter since 1986. He was placed on leave on Feb. 5 after allegations were made against him, and the Maynard Police Department opened an investigation. A termination hearing will be held in early March, according to town officials.

“This is a deeply disturbing case involving serious allegations,” Chief Dubois said. “Our detectives conducted a thorough investigation, working with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, to determine the appropriate course of action.”

MACGILLIVARY is being held a the Maynard Police Department pending his arraignment Friday in Middlesex Superior Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
